Deutsch: The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus Originaltitel: The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus Fantasy Frankreich/Kanada 2009 Wie schon so oft in seiner Karriere war Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Komödie/Drama, USA 1998 Katherine Helmond, Christina Ricci,… ) auch bei seinem neuen Film „The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus kein reibungsloser Produktionsablauf vergönnt. Durch den tragischen Tod von Hauptdarsteller Heath Ledger während der Dreharbeiten stand das Projekt wochenlang vor dem Aus, bis Gilliam den Entschluss fasste, den Film für Ledger doch noch zu Ende zu bringen. Da die Filmhandlung, die in verschiedenen Realitätsebenen angesiedelt ist, sowieso Transformationen für Ledgers Rolle vorsah und der Großteil seiner Szenen in der echten Welt bereits abgedreht waren, wandte sich Gilliam an die mit Ledger befreundeten Johnny Depp, Jude Law und Colin Farrell, die allesamt auf eine Gage verzichteten, in den verbleibenden Szenen für Ledger einsprangen und so die Fertigstellung ermöglichten. In Anbetracht dieser Umstände ist das Resultat durchaus beachtlich, zwar krankt das Fantasy-Drama manchmal an denselben Problemen, mit denen auch Gilliams jüngere Filme Brothers Grimm und Tideland zu kämpfen hatte: Gilliam kann seine überbordende Fantasie nicht immer einer stringenten Erzählung unterordnen, aber dem Gesamtwerk schadet dies nicht zwingend.
